Happy Pink Saturday!

Although it is not the "stuff" that makes the season so special for me, I do enjoy having some eye-pleasing little spots around the house that have been dusted, fluffed, and shined up a bit. What can be more eye-pleasing than PINK? You can click on some of these pictures to make them bigger, and I have no clue how I made that happen!

A pink ribbony cupcake below sits on a Goodwill-purchased wine glass glued to a glass plate to make a cake "stand". My Vintage Pink Christmas Swap Partner sent me a box full of great little pink goodies like the little sled and cake plate ornament in the pictures below. I thoroughly enjoyed participating in my first Swap!

  

I am not sure if my Vintage Pink Swap partner, Stevie, made the little Noel sign, but I think it's very simple and sweet. Sometimes I find myself getting too elaborate and over the top with my crafts. This expresses a sentiment perfectly!  

I filled the sled below with little glittered Martha Stewart ornaments...25% Off at KMart. (Can you tell I enjoyed KMart this year?)

 Next, one of my very favorite vintage finds of late. It is a little Toyland suitcase. The colors are the most sherberty shades of pink, coral, and turquoise. The graphics are from a sweet and more innocent time. I have some little dolls hidden in there right now.

 The Martha Stewart ornaments at KMart were so cute this year. The little bon-bons added just the right touch to my pink tree.

How Did This Happen?

I was looking at this little arrangement I have created on my dining room table, and the absolute ridiculousness of it hit me. What in the world was I thinking? What must these poor deer be thinking? If they were real. And, yes. They are not. Poor dears. It makes me laugh.

 

Father Deer: "I have never felt more foolish than at this moment..standing in front of bowls of disco balls! I may as well be wearing white platform shoes and dancing to the Bee Gees! I can feel my antlers curling as I speak."

Mother Deer: "We have Big Lots to thank for the cheap plastic disco balls. You think she might have at least posed us in front of some lovely glass ornaments. This is the tackiest photo shoot we've ever been involved in. I am totally undone."

Teen Deer: "If my friends at school see this, I'll be humiliated. Like totally. Like totally humiliated! I'm standing on plaid. Plaid! Who does plaid anymore? Oh the agony of it all!"

This is the time of the season I have to stop, take a deep breath, and remind myself why I celebrate Christmas. The deer and the cheap disco balls are silly fun, but I surely do love the fact that Jesus was born. Last week I held a little newborn baby in my arms and was awed to be reminded so sweetly of my Savior who came into this world as a wee innocent babe. Thank you, Lord.

Oh Deer! My First Crafty Corsage!

Elizabeth showed us how to do it,  and today we are modeling our creations. Here is my "corsaga". This special corsage is for my mother-in-law. We are celebrating her 80th birthday with a party today. She is technically not my mother-in-law anymore because my husband...her son...heartbreakingly died of cancer a few years ago.But what is technically when it comes to matters of the heart?  I recently remarried. She moved me right on over into the daughter position and my new husband into son-in-law position. She is just the most wonderful person a girl could ever hope to have for a mother-in-law. She has been a blessing to my life.

For her birthday she wanted only fun presents and gag gifts, so I decided the corsage idea was the perfect little special touch for her party.  

To start my project I selected one of these chocolates:

 

I needed it for corsage-making strength. It immediately jumped out of the wrapper, rolled across the floor, and I had to chase it out from under a chair. I blew on it, and then I ate it.

For my corsage base, I chose one of these dollar-store-felt-snowflake-strange-things. I love them, and have done many a craft project with them already. The package contains about five or six brightly colored cut-outs, and I chose the turquoise one. My corsage ribbon was a combination of felt strips, to which I added snowflake buttons, and then some more dollar store ribbon.

 

My centerpiece is a 50 cent vintage deer from an antique store.  She had some bald spots I had to disguise with glue and glitter. I added a sassy pom-pom hat and stick-on flower applique, some tiny buttons,and a little this and that. She has lots of little mess-ups, but she is my first attempt. I REALLY enjoyed making my corsage, and would love to make more, I just flat ran out of time. 

To my DEER DEAR Mother-in-Love for lots of years of sweetness.

****Photo taken by "creative" 12 year old son, who had me at such a weird angle I appeared to be standing on my head. This required hours of trying to figure out how to "custom" rotate myself. I'm exhausted from all the custom rotation.****

Happy Pink Saturday!

Today it's all about lollipops...of the un-lickety, un-stickety variety! I've been sewing up these fake felt confections like a crazed woman. They are the perfect candy for my diabetic self. I'm addicted to swirling them with button "candy' and glittery doo-dads. It is quite therapeutic. I need to give credit where credit is due, and I have been inspired by the lovely delicateness of Shirl's Lollipops on her blog. They are fancy schmancy and beautifully embroidered with silk ribbon, plus you can purchase them! Please go pay her a visit.

Here are my pinky lollipops displayed in an old ceramic florist baby bootie.

 

 

In the spirit of Christmas, I'll show you my red lollipops, too. I have enjoyed displaying these for added cheer. I'll probably use them on packages or something.
