A picture fell off the wall the other day. Just fell off. The glass broke and a huge blank space was left until I can get the picture reframed. This incident happened in a little nook underneath my stairs. This spot sports way more white space than I care for.
So, it was time to drag out a cute little $4.00 shelf from a local antique store and add a few of my favorite things to this new bare space. My new obssesssssion are these vintage baby vases. This little lamb is from 1960. The color is pure cotton candy sweetness. I have my eye out for these cuties whenever I am out and about. Yes, those are still my homemade lollipops from Christmas. They make me happy, so I guess they've become a permanent part of the landscape!
I filled some tiny glass butter dishes with vintage buttons to add a little color.
An old wooden spool with Dollar Tree velvet ribbon has an old kewpie standing guard over an old teacup and a vintage cherry brooch with a pearl.
Bob purchased an old treadle sewing machine on our first "treasure hunt" at Canton First Mondays. I layed down some Valentine scrapbook paper and began to add a little more stuff to froof things up a bit...an old jar filled with wooden spools, tied off with Dollar Store ribbon, d an old cherry brooch perched on top.
A Valentine bracelet is placed on a paper doily.
I dolled up this dress form by first sitting it on an old crocheted doily so it wouldn't scratch up the sewing machine cabinet, and then added some vintage millinery and some berries for a "corsage".
Here is the final look. I like the results, especially since I just gathered little knick-knacks from around the house and didn't go buy anything special.
Actually, it's probably not the FINAL look and I'll fiddle with it some more! That's the fun of it. Oh, and those are Dollar General plastic doilies I painted and glued to the staircase and added some small fleur-de-lis wallies to the middle. They have help up pretty well and added some texture to the blank whiteness (have I mentioned I'm not too crazy about blank whiteness?)
