Vintage Paint by Number Bouquets...Sweet and Cottage Cozy

I'm celebrating Pink Saturday with Beverly at How Sweet The Sound with a rosey post. I have enjoyed picking "bouquets" of roses wherever I can find them "growing". They help to make my house feel pretty even when it is messy and stinky.

 

These two old paint-by-number arrangements were found growing at a little antique store in Batesville, Arkansas. I was delighted to discover they were priced $5.00 for the pair! I am intrigued by vintage paint-by-number, as I don't think I have the personality to follow the directions to completion...I'm not a color-inside-the-lines, or follow-the-recipe kind of girl. So, thank you to the mysterious and patient artist from the past for these lovely bouquets.

 I enjoy finding sweet plates to decorate a little wall space. Usually my plates are mismatched, but when I spied these little roses sweetly growing on a Goodwill shelf, I had to snatch them up and run...after paying of course.

The beautiful colors in the old print below attracted my attention. My eyes drink in the soft blend of rich colors. I hope to use this picture soon as an inspiration jumping off place to completely redo my living room. My yellow paint is getting tired and old. Oh....okay...I'm getting old...and I'm tired of looking at it! lol! I would really like to live in the little cottage behind the pretty lady. Isn't it dreamy?

 
Below is another little cheapy thrift store picture that called to me from its shelf, "Melony, come buy me. You know you love bouquets in muted soft colors!" For $2.00, I answered the call and surely, someday, maybe, eventually, perhaps, if I get around to it, I might paint the frame...or maybe not. sigh.

 
 Oh my, there are lots more bouquets on the walls of my humble abode, but that is enough for one Pink Saturday! Sad Shed, Happy Shed, Sad Shed Makeover

I am linking up with The Shabby Chic Cottage for their Transformations for under $5.00 or Less. Here is my first contribution:

SAD SHED:

This was the really pitiful cheapy little metal storage shed in our back yard when we purchased our house. What an eyesore.

HAPPY SHED:

I was lucky enough to find some barn red paint made for metal buildings for $2.00 on the Lowe's Oops paint shelf. I then set out with my little containers of craft paint to spice things up a bit.

 

It cleaned up pretty good, huh?  I painted very simple sunflowers, hollyhocks, bee hive, butterflies and a picket fence. I added lots of ladybugs to the fence.

 

SAD SHED ENDING:

The story of my Ugly Duckling storage shed ended badly. After working on it for about a week, a storm came and a gigantic limb from the tree (seen in the picture) crashed down on the roof. It was totally crunched. It's one of those things you just have to laugh about. These pictures are several years old, so I'm over the disaster and grief, I promise!

With Spring around the corner, I was hoping my little shed makeover might provide a bit of inspiration if you have an ugly old shed in your back yard. (Just make sure there are no threatening limbs hanging above your building before you put in hours on the paint job!)

Romance and Deodorant...who knew?

Here is a little craft project I put together and is for sale in my Etsy shop. It's another great advertisement from a 1948 Ladies Home Journal. This time it's for Veto...a wonderful new deodorant! It's hard to imagine a time before deodorants and anti-perspirants, and I'm wondering what women did before the invention of this product. Was there a natural remedy?

This glamour girl is thrilled and giddy with excitement to be able to hold up her arms with no worries of unpleasant odors or embarrassment. This, according to the ad, allows her to "say yes to romance"!  It's all due to the amazing product below...

Thank goodness for Veto...Colgate's new deodorant, (which has been Mod Podged on to my canvas and had the Martha Stewart glitter treatment!) It apparently was life changing for this well dressed beauty. I guess Colgate eventually decided to stick with toothpaste, as I can't think of a current Colgate deodorant product, but I could be wrong.

 

On the awkward-sort-of-creepy side: Don't we all dream of a strange man in eyeliner and top hat watching us apply our deodorant? Eeeewww. That's all I'm saying. 

With all the bling added to this collage, I wanted to include a bit of softness. Moss green velvet ribbon with white flowers and a pink rose finished the piece below. It is ready to hang and bring a smile in a bathroom, dressing area, or to add a shabby chic cottage look to a bedroom! I love little pieces of art that have a sense of humor or are little conversation pieces.

My Valentine Tree!

After years of having a wonky $10 tree, my husband decided we would celebrate our first Christmas together with a nice pre-lit Christmas tree. It was pricey (to my cheapo Goodwill sensibilities), but I didn't argue. It was also so pretty we didn't get around to putting ornaments on it for Christmas. We just enjoyed plugging it in and seeing the lights twinkle on the "snowy" limbs. My husband doesn't want to take it down yet. 

My creativity and glue guns have been blazing! I began to craft and create hearts during the last couple of months and have enjoyed celebrating Valentines Day with a Valentine Tree! You will see it in its entirety at the end of the post.

I wanted to share a few of the simple hearts I made. I've gifted a few along the way to some special people in my life. Hearts were purchased on sale at Hobby Lobby, and embellished with bits and bobs from my stash. My red Dollar Tree lovebirds are tucked into the limbs above and a few ribbon bows are placed are here and there among the limbs.

 

This heart sports lots of vintage aqua colored buttons and is hand stitched in red.

Vintage cards were stitched to felt hearts and buttons added.

 

X's and O's made with red thread and vintage pearly swirly buttons are on the heart below.

Pink heart with pom-poms was easy with a spot of glue. 

I love the little Martha Stewart felt appliques I found at Michael's. They have flowers and bunnies, but I liked this sweet pink bird to perch on my aqua heart. 

 

My next heart came out of my office supply box and turned out to be one of my favorites!

My daughter, Daisy, helped me with the tree topper. We had two glittery love birds that were off Christmas packages intertwined with some berries.

Puppy Dog Art with Cake Rounds and Cupcake Liners

It is actually snowing in East Texas today. Unbelievable and wonderful! On this cold wintery day I have finished a couple of little craft projects. It seems I have thought of nothing but food lately. Even my craft projects seem food centered. These were made using cake rounds as the base and cupcake liners as the ruffles. Anyone know of a craft project using a pizza box? I'm in the mood for pepperoni.  

Is this a Yorkie? I am a little bit late for REDnesday, but I hope Sue won't mind if I participate a little late with my red craft projects. Check out the other ladies showing off their reds over at It's a Very Cherry World.

 
A few embellishments here and there...vintage buttons and Scrabble tiles...the usual wonderful Mod Podge that brings all good things together.

I love to play Scrabble. My mother and grandmother would often play on afternoons with a glass of Pepsi and homemade fudge. They would really compete and both knew lots of handy two letter words for when they got to the end of the game and it got really tricky to find a spot to lay down a word.

 

I am calling the puppy above a Beagle. I am so not good with animal breeds, so feel free to correct me if I am wrong. That is  most definitely a Yellow Billed Orange-Winged PomPom Bird perched on the little blue flag. (I am an expert on birds. lol!)

A Little This and That for under $12.00

 Happy Pink Saturday to you. I have a few pinky things to share with you today, but make sure you pop on over to Beverly's at How Sweet the Sound to visit other ladies who love a bit of pink in their life. 

The long winter days have left garage sales few and far between. I haven't been in the mood for the Goodwill store. Their prices seem to get higher and higher. What does a junkaholic on a budget do when they need a fix? I ran into an antique mall. The economy must be killing antique dealers. it was sad to see so many booths closed. One of my favorite booths was having a 50% off sale which sang my song. Here are my finds. I spent under $12.00!

Sweet old notecards:

 
An old Japan Easter flower container. Aren't the colors sweet? You can barely see the "Happy Easter", but I still like it just fine...it was half price and all.

Then, I found this crescent shaped brooch. I enjoy using the old bling bling in my art work.

 
These aren't old, but I loved the graphics...a box of greeting cards. What an excellent question this young woman (cleaning in her peppermint-striped blouse with navy skirt) asks, "How do YOU clean stubborn spots off floors?"

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. My favorite day of the week is Sunday. I love going to church and basking in the joy of the music, and getting refueled by the Word for the week ahead. It is so reviving to me to see my friends and receive a hug and know Jesus lives. Blessings to you all.

 

  

I want a cherry print computer...sigh

If Cath Kidston or Mary Engelbreit would come out with computers or printers in cute prints...I'd be all over it. In the meantime, I try to squeeze the white,  grays and blacks into my little junk-o-rama flowery, cherry, retro world.  This is an old quilt rack (that really needs to be painted a nice yummy color) with some old vintage tea towels tossed over it for some fun. I love the graphic on these old towels. On the top are some mixy-matchy dishes...deep green, pink melmac, and an old platter with roses.
